National Hospitality Day 2022 - Umbrella Training’s Favourite Restaurants

Today is National Hospitality Day, a nationwide celebration of our brilliant and resilient sector, the people who work within it, and the suppliers that support them.

In order to show our support for this fantastic industry, team Umbrella went out and enjoyed some time at their favourite restaurants, bars and hospitality businesses and let us know why they think you should visit them as well.

Myself and the family will be going to our favourite local Indian restaurant called Taaj Restaurant.

We go to eat at Mr Ali’s restaurant as we have become friends since working together at Kirklees College and we have been eating there since 2012.

I am planning on having mixed pickle tray and poppadom’s, Seekh Kebab for starter, then Chicken Tikka Garlic Wala.

My girlfriend and I used to be neighbours with an amazing Indian restaurant who we became good friends with. They moved to a bigger site about half a mile away and we haven’t had the excuse to go yet but National Hospitality Day is an amazing opportunity to do so.

It is called Spice Village and we are going because we want to support their new site. I normally have a Lamb Bhuna, Garlic and Chili Naan, Vegetable Samosa and an Onion Bhaji. The missus usually goes for a Saag Paneer, Peshwari Naan and a Pakora.

We went up and supported my local village pub/restaurant, The Plough at Hanney – food is amazing and service too. It’s run by Owain and Luke and they are both fantastic advocates for hospitality. They even had their own festival this summer! Highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

I’m going to Brettingtons steak & Lobster House in Rochester and i’m having the Steak and Lobster sharing plate. The food is amazing and last time we were here there was a power cut so we were offered a free bottle of wine on our next visit, so it’s a win win situation!

Carly - Learning Consultant

I’m going to Piccolino in Virginia Water for a Long overdue catchup with friends and to celebrate my first week as a member of Team Umbrella!

Jack - Digital & Marketing Manager

My partner and I wanted to go somewhere little outside our local town so chose to go to The Milk House in Sissinghurst. The venue has had some good reviews and I can confirm it was pretty good! They have a reputation for great pizza but sadly they weren’t available at the time.

Starter - Sweet Roasted Peppers, basil & Tomato tart with Parmesan crumb, courgetti, and rocket pesto dressing

Main - Chargrilled Rib-eye Steak with bacon hispi cabbage, chunky chips and black pepper butter

Dessert - Blackcurrant Arctic roll (we ate it before we got a picture…sorry)

Sophie - Head of Business Development

We have chosen to go to one of our fave local restaurants – Larder Lichfield

We love it because its local, independent, and great cosy food. Its tag line is “ All flavour, no pomp” which I love and really describes it well! It also features in the Michelin Guide- won’t be long before they get a star!

Main - Pan Fried Seabream

Dessert - Rocky Road Brownie 😋

Robyn - Account Executive

We decided to go to the Pig&Sty for National Hospitality Day. We were having lunch with my partners parents as a celebration/goodbye due to them moving to the boarders of Wales whilst we are away in Italy. The Pig & Sty is one of the many pubs within the Elite Pubs chain each one has its own personality, plus all produce as well as beverages are locally sourced within Kent. I plan to visit all 13 venues.

Starter - Plant-based satay chicken skewer - sweet chilli cucumber salad, peanut salad

Main - Steak ciabatta - caramelised red onion, rocket, chipotle mayo, skin-on fries

Drink – A large glass of Chapel Down, Bacchus White

Will - Senior Learning Consultant

We’ll be going out for cocktails at Sky Bar at The Aviator in Farnborough. There’s a great selection of contemporary cocktails as well as the classics. It’s a pretty great spot for an afternoon tea as well.

Kaye - Creative and Graphic Design Lead

This National hospitality day my husband and me are away on annual leave, so we made sure to fully embrace all things hospitality!! We have booked ourselves into the Kings Head Hotel in Cirencester for our last night in the Cotswolds and for a meal at La Bobina for an amazing taste of Spain in this beautiful Capital of the Cotswolds.
