Umbrella Training Partners with Metaverse Learning For Next-Gen Teaching

On Thursday 28th September 2023 Umbrella Training partnered with Metaverse Learning to bring a brand new way of teaching. We saw how future Commis Chefs can learn vital skills and experiences through virtual reality with scenarios developed carefully by Umbrella Training and created by Metaverse Learning.

Those who attended were able to try out three brand-new scenarios developed in partnership with the Umbrella Training team which took the users from kitchen safety precautions to hands-on prep work.

Here’s what those who attended had to say:

“It gives everyone a heads up as you know the environment you’re going to go into. I was just using an example of the first time you ever change the oil in a deep fat fryer, it’s terrifying - if you do something wrong you’re covered in hot oil. So to know that you practise that in a safe environment the first time - I think that is really going to benefit apprentices and gives them more confidence” - Pete Redman, Chef Director, BM Caterers

“One of the things I enjoyed looking at today, is seeing how immersive it can be. If I look at my children and the way they interact with their computers, it will feel second to none getting to grips with how this works. There is also a level of excitement as opposed to mundane classroom sessions as you usually have.” - John Hicks, Senior Chef Trainer, BaxterStorey
