How to hire an Apprentice
The process of hiring an apprentice for the first time can be a bit daunting, so here are a few easy steps to follow.
You’ll need to create an apprenticeship service account to hire an apprentice. You can then either:
Choose an apprenticeship training course, for example 'Hospitality Team Member' and then find a training provider such as 'Umbrella Training' using find apprenticeship training.
Create your own apprenticeship opportunity using recruit an apprentice.
The recruitment process
You can manage the recruitment process yourself or you can ask your training provider to manage it on your behalf.
When hiring an apprentice, there are some limitations you must keep in mind.
An apprentice must:
Be aged 16 or over
Not already be in full-time education
Be living in England
Increasing the diversity
It is important that you consider of your applicants. For example, you can:
Arrange visits to schools, colleges and universities
Advise inside your own workplace
Use social media and job boards
Participate in careers events, such as WorldSkills UK Live or Skills London
Apprenticeship incentive
Also keep in mind, employers who hire a new apprentice will now receive £3,000 per new hire, regardless of the apprentice’s age and without affecting their apprenticeship levy.
This Apprenticeship incentive is available for apprentices who start between 1 April 2021 and 30 September 2021, so don't miss out!
