With more than 20 years’ experience in post compulsory education, hospitality and learning & development, Dan is Umbrella Training’s ‘Mr Versatile,’ who is as comfortable in the board room as he is delivering front line training.

Dan says ‘I’ve seen first-hand the transformational nature of apprenticeships and I am more passionate about them today than I have ever been before.  Apprenticeships offer incredible opportunities for both employer and employee.

The Apprenticeship Levy has created L&D budgets for businesses whether they are Levy paying or not.  Our role as educators has changed completely too.  No longer are we bound by a fixed syllabus, but we can help create meaningful learning experiences that really affect positive change for our learner and clients.’

Having worked operationally in nearly all roles within hospitality from butcher’s assistant to Pub Manager and all roles in between, the latter part of Dan’s career was spent working in FE Colleges where he was latterly an Assistant Principal.  However, 8 years with Sector Skills Council for Hospitality and Tourism People 1st really cements Dan’s knowledge and understanding of how formal education can benefit businesses.

A family man, when not at work Dan has 2 very distinct hobbies.  Dan is a Level 2 qualified Rugby Coach and Referee.  Currently coaching both the Academy (U18’s) and U13 teams at Trojans, the oldest Rugby Club in Hampshire. When not at the rugby club Dan can is a keen open water swimmer and this year will be competing in some (non-wetsuit) winter swimming events!
