Umbrella apprentices take-over Crowne Plaza Kensington.

Umbrella apprentices took over the Crowne Plaza Kensington as part of a unique event held to support Social Sunday.

The apprentices, on chef and front-of-house programmes, hosted Industry leaders, business partners, employers, and beneficiaries from a number of charities.Alongside raising much needed funds for charity, the event gave the apprentices the opportunity to plan and deliver an event, supporting their off-job training.Led by Ben Purton, Umbrella Training ambassador, the apprentice team treated guests to a four-course Sunday lunch in the hotel’s garden pods.

Guests included ten former residents of Grenfell Tower who were invited as part of the hotel’s support for the local community.

Umbrella Training's Adele Oxberry FIH, chief executive and founder said "We are so proud to support and contribute to these amazing charities and for Social Sunday, this has proven to be a huge success. Charity is a vast part of our corporate social responsibility and personally as passionate, caring individuals from the hospitality sector. Our apprentices, business partners, suppliers and all stakeholders involved in this day demonstrated how this remarkable sector can come together and support our those in need."

Sam Coulstock FIH, business relations director, Umbrella Training, said: We are so proud of everybody who took part. This event was a fantastic way to showcase the brilliant development we’ve seen from all of our apprentices."

“The apprenticeship is very much an integral part of any progressive business’s people strategy. These young people really demonstrated how they can add true value to their organisations and the sector as a whole."

“Both the front-of-house and kitchen teams worked incredibly hard to deliver an event fitting of the standards you’d expect at a hotel of this calibre.  After many WhatsApp and telephone conversations, they pulled off an event to remember!”

Aleida, an Umbrella Training apprentice who was part of the take over said "Being part of such a great initiative, meeting new inspiring people and knowing that your support can help someone who needs are special feelings to be added to my apprenticeship journey"

Selvan, a level 5 apprentice who run the Front of House team said We all come from different background, from different hospitality background and industry. Different level of experiences but what we all did on Sunday is shining and shouting out loud that we care and we look after each other. That when we know our goal, we can achieve it by being positive and teaming up to achieve the best result.”
